Memorial Day 2001: Cinders
I had not been riding since my last trip to Glamis
in February so I was ready to do some riding by Memorial Day weekend! In
the summer, the Cinders outside of Flagstaff, AZ is one of the best
places to ride. At an elevation of 7000', it's much cooler than most of
the state. I met up JeffH, Fourtrax, and BansheeQueen, all Arizona ATV
Connection chatters. There were five others with us as well.
I had never been to the Cinders during a holiday weekend
and it was packed. Luckily, the park is big enough that it doesn't get
crowded on the trails. We did the usual hill climbing, rode on the race
track which is about 30 miles of whoops, and enjoyed the flat trails in
the pines. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of peace and quiet at
times (I'm
getting old). Waking up around 5am and hearing a bunch of drunk guys
singing along with Steve Miller was definitely not the highlight of the
weekend. Overall, it was a great trip. Temps were perfect, we ate a lot
of good food, and enjoyed some beers at the campfire.
