August 2000: Cinders
Photo 4 of 20
In case you have no idea what cinders are, here's what they look like. A cinder is a bubbly (vesicular) volcanic rock fragment that forms when molten, gas-filled lava is thrown into the air, then solidifies as it falls.Next to the Cinders off-road park is Sunset Crater which is a volcano that started erupting around AD 1064-1065. It's final eruption was around 1250 and it is now a national park. The crater is 500' deep and one mile in diameter. Some people use paddles in the cinders so they can climb the bigger hills but the cinders will tear them up pretty fast. I prefer to use my turf tamers.
